The Debate

The debate has finally ended between the two opposing tribal parties of Jamaica. The approaching fiftieth anniversary celebration from British political rule seem insignificant watching supposedly the best of our intellect trying to explain who did the best in allowing our country to be at the mercy of the international monetary fund. The setting was at the Premier institution of higher learning within the Caribbean, the University of the West Indies. Having the distinction of having the most churches per population in the world our debaters were questioned on their position on homosexuality not on strategies to eradicate poverty and to earn foreign exchange. What was absent from the debate was two important audience the power broker of both political parties, the private sector and the victim of the neo-liberal policies of both administration, the unemployed, the nurses, the farmers, the homeless the retirees and the youths.

The difference was clear between both contestants with Portia Simpson Miller in her quest to address the high unemployment in Jamaica keep reiterating the desire to renegotiate the IMF program and Mr. Holness holding to his previous boss position, the private sector must be the engine of growth. It is clear that both will be signing these failed economic policies with Jamaica continuing to be the victim.
